The Lego Movie and Disappointing Cliches

Hello, there! I recently saw the Lego Movie in theaters, and I’ll admit, I was quite disappointed. I’m here to share with you why I was.

This review-thing contains spoilers!

Well, the movie was mildly funny, and some parts made me laugh pretty hard. The main song, “Everything is Awesome” is annoyingly catchy, and may or may not be stuck in my head right now. However, the movie had it’s bad parts.

  • Wildstyle. I wanted to like her, I really did, but the movie butchered her, one of about two female characters, so badly. One of the biggest things that bothered me was the stereotypical cliché. The ‘strong female character’ starts out powerful, one of the best on the time. Enter Emmett, the bumbling main character, who surpasses her strength in 100 minutes, while she stays static and once it becomes apparent he’s part of the prophecy, doesn’t do anything to better herself. Sigh. Not only that, but she developed an too-quick romantic relationship with him and obviously has a crush on him about 40 minutes into the movie.
  • Emmet. Bumbling mess-up learns he’s the Chosen One, and quickly becomes the supreme self-sacrificing epitome of a hero. Sigh.
  • The ‘Wise Mentor Who Dies But Comes Back As A Ghost And Gives Advice That Leads The Hero Into Sacrificing Himself.’ Need I say more?
  • Batman. He takes the role of ‘boyfriend who’s actually not horrible but gets dumped for the hero and seemingly doesn’t care.’

All in all, the movie was rather disappointing, despite it’s positive message. I know it’s a short review, but that’s all for today!

Top Ten Favourite Movies, Part Two

Hello again! I’m here to finish up my favourite movies posts, with another five to recommend to you. Without further ado, here they are!

Dun. Dun. Dunnn!

Journey to the Center of the Earth

I really liked this movie! The cool biology and interesting creatures and settings, not to mention the believable and intriguing characters, really sold me on this movie. But really, the deep-earth animals and settings. That jewel scene was the best.

Calcifer, looking slightly sad, slightly bored.

Howl’s Moving Castle

I actually prefer the book, but the movie is amazing in it’s own way. Calcifer if my favourite, followed by Sophie. She makes a perfect old woman, I must say.

I love her dress, wow.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

It’s been a while since I’ve seen this movie, but I really liked it.

Toothless glowing blue is my favourite thing.

How To Train Your Dragon 2

While I loved the first one, for once the sequel was as good or better, in my opinion! Sitting in the theater watching it for the first time and listening to the opening music, it felt like home almost. The books and movies are very dear to my heart.

Ahh, Leia. I love her.

Star Wars IV: A New Hope

A classic, and one of my favourites! The music, the characters, the banter, the setting, this movie is absolutely fabulous.

Well, I’m finally finished with my top ten posts. I hope you enjoyed it!

Top Ten Favourite Movies, Part 1

Hello! Today I’m doing a post on my top ten favourite movies. I’m doing five today and five tomorrow, complete with descriptions on why I love them!

In no particular order, here they are!

Inconceivable!

Inconceivable!

The Princess Bride

Cheesy as this movie might be, it’s one of my all-time favourites. My family quotes it constantly, we watch it every year, and we burst out laughing. We can even practically quote every line in the movie! I’ve loved this movie for a long time.

The dream world...

Inception

Oh, Gallifrey, I absolutely loved this movie. I just watched it recently, with my sister, who is also a fan of the movie. Gorgeous music, edge-of-your-seat pacing, fascinating concept that’s carried out well, this movie has it all. A++, I do recommend it.

Natasha, Clint, and Steve.

The Avengers

Another great movie! I’ve watched it repeatedly and loved it every time. Especially due to the abundance of Black Widow.

Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I liked this movie almost more than the first one. It was very dark and fast-paced, and very emotional. You could almost feel the scenes, like you were the characters. I loved it.

Lizzy in a swing.

Pride and Prejudice

A classic among my mom, sister, and I. My brother and dad don’t care for it so much, but I really like it. One of my ‘feel-good’ movies to watch with the family.

The next five will be here tomorrow. Enjoy!
